The company’s glasshouses are available in clear span, three-quarter span and lean-to designs in a wide variety of sizes. These range from 15 to over 300ft in length, matched to varying depths and pitches. COLDFRAMES
Coldframes are available in the same configurations as glasshouses and for the same usage, but have a maximum practical length of 60 feet. The hinged sashes can be locked into position with a unique rack system, which holds them firm in windy conditions. The clear and three-quarter span designs incorporate a lifting ridge ventilator.
STAGING
Built to the original 1870s design from cast iron, Foster & Pearson’s ornate staging complements its glasshouses. It is available as a free-standing arrangement or in a fixed form, where it is attached to the walls.
FITTINGS
These include:
• lighting
• roof shades
• cast iron floor grates
• riveted water tanks
HEATING SYSTEMS
Foster & Pearson provides a variety of systems ranging from the original large bore, cast iron pipes to modern electrically heated elements. Either option can be installed below cast iron floor grates or fitted directly to the internal walls. The systems can provide different ranges of temperature for various zones within glasshouses, depending on their intended use.
RESTORATION SERVICES
Where glasshouses have suffered neglect, been destroyed by fire, need altering, or require re-erecting on a new site, it is generally the case that while the castings may still be in good order, the timberwork is likely to need restoring or replacing. Foster & Pearson offers a full restoration service that will return such houses to their former glory.
Additionally, replacement castings, fittings and timber mouldings can be supplied to those wishing to carry out their own restoration. Similar iron and timber components are also available for other makes of glasshouse such as Messenger, Boulton and Paul, Tucker, Robinson, McKenzie & Moncur etc.
